Why “Urban Corners” and a Game?
The idea for the Urban Corners app was born in a think tank situated in the mountains of Central Asia. Young artists, activists and academics taking part in a project of the Goethe-Institut Kazakhstan came together in a yurt village in order to develop positive initiatives aimed at generating interest in environmental topics among young people. Thanks to the collaboration with the environmental organisation CAREC, Astana has now become the venue for a game that focuses on energy-relevant themes in combination with forms of urban living.
The app is available to download for free in German, English, Kazakh and Russian from (Google Play and the iTunes).
The Game is all about a Magic River consisting of five energies – fire, water, wind, earth and time / future – which were in harmony with one another and thus kept the stream alive. Each of these energy streams was nurtured and protected by a group of guardians, but suddenly they all disappeared.
It is now up to the Players to become Guardians and restore the stream’s flow and keep the balance. Players decide which of the five Guardian groups to join:
